Love a Local $100 Facebook Contest Open through Tuesday!

Are you shopping--or eating--local with your loved ones this Valentine's Day? If so, be sure to snap a selfie with your receipt (feel free to fold your receipt so that the specific items you bought, credit card info, and/or total aren't showing, but make sure the store or restaurant is visible!) and post it on the Love a Local Facebook Page! After Tuesday, the contest hosts will be drawing one person who posted to win $100 for themselves and $100 for the restaurant or store they visited!

The page states that receipts should be from a locally owned business in Sioux City, South Sioux City, North Sioux City, Onawa, LeMars and/or surrounding towns; that entries are limited to one per person per business (there goes my excuse to buy Jitters *every* morning between now and Tuesday!); and that entries must be posted by 11:59pm Tuesday (Valentine's Day) night.

Want to participate but not sure what to get? Here are a few of my local favorites sure to be fun for families this Valentine's Day:
  • Palmer's Candy Store: Kids. Candy store. Need I say more?!? (I especially recommend the dark chocolate sea salt caramel hearts!)
  • Jolly Time Koated Kernels: Ask for their $1.75 popcorn hearts!
  • Jitters Donuts: Everything they make is amazing, and I'm dying to try their new S'mores donut! Try it for me and report back, okay?
  • La Juanita's: Valentine's Day does fall on a Tuesday this year...why not make it Taco Tuesday? I've already hinted this to my husband.
  • Billy Boy: Go for the classic 50's date and get delicious burgers and fries from Billy Boy in North Sioux this Valentine's Day. Poodle skirts optional.
  • Blue Bunny: Blue Bunny actually has an adorable ice cream parlor in LeMars that would be perfect for a date with your sweetie or your kids! Be sure to try their bunny shaped sugar cookies, an unexpectedly delicious offering for a place that mostly focuses on frozen treats!
  • Minerva's and Kahill's: If you prefer to go fancy for Valentine's Day, you can't beat Minerva's and Kahill's in Sioux City and South Sioux. Everything tastes amazing there, especially the steak at Kahill's. For fancy on a moderate budget, try the gourmet Sunday brunch buffet. It is cheaper than most of their dinner options but the food is spectacular and may leave you full until Monday! I highly recommend calling ahead to make a reservation asap if you'd like to go this weekend because of the holiday.
