Festival Fun at Saturday in the Park 2017

crowd at Sioux City Saturday in the Park Music Festival

Fireworks. Funnel cake. Ferris wheel. Funk music.

Saturday in the Park 2017 will feature all that and more, and you're going to want to be part of the tens of thousands of people who flock to Grandview Park on Saturday, July 1, 2017 to be a part of the fun! This year's festival will bring us funk, blues, country, and rock and is headlined by Joss Stone (here is her website, and my favorite song of hers) and also features 35th & Taylor, a local band who's making a big splash nationally (check them out here). After the concert, Saturday in the Park features Sioux City's best Fourth of July fireworks show, usually beginning sometime between 10:30pm and midnight. (The last performance, Joss Stone, is scheduled to begin at 8:45pm, but sometimes things run behind schedule by the end of the day due to weather, technical delays, performer health, and/or audience demand for encores)

And while the music is mostly adult oriented, kids around Siouxland look forward each year to the SITP Kids Zone! This year the kids zone is open from noon to 7pm and features some great performers and attractions including:
  • KCAU weather, which will be recording from noon to 4pm and which will give some kids a chance to be on air with Saturday's weather
  • Balloon artist Mr. Twister with free balloon scuptures
  • Meyer's Petting Zoo, open from noon-5pm with free admission ($1 for pellets to feed the animals)
  • The Magic Man Cory Fravel
  • Face Painting, temporary tattoos, and hair coloring by Happy Faces Face Painting for $5-10
  • Inflatables including a bounce house and an obstacle course
  • And a ferris wheel!
Tickets for attractions are $1, or $15 for an all-day wristband.

Saturday in the Park is also known for its great food trucks. Some of the food vendors signed up for 2017 include:
  • Gobblestop Turkey Shop
  • Burrito Island
  • Gyros and More
  • Tornado Funnel
  • Wells Blue Bunny
  • Godfathers
  • 3 Guys and a Ribeye
  • Boss Hog BBQ
  • MarcosTornado Enterprize
  • Famous Dave’s
  • La Juanitas
  • The Parthenon
  • Fickle Chicks
  • J&J Old Fashion Kettle Corn
  • Papa John’s
  • Daga’s Mexican grill

The festival can be very loud, so I recommend noise cancelling headphones for babies and for any kids sensitive to loud noises. There are only porta potties available at the park itself, but the Hy-Vee on Pierce street has good restrooms for customers plus free wi-fi and a surprisingly good grill--my kids and I love their chicken strips! And an important change to Saturday in the Park has been made: only clear bags allowed, and no outside food or drink. I checked with the Saturday in the Park organizers however and they said things for babies or toddlers like sippy cups, bottles, and cheerios are fine!
