Halloween this year is on a Tuesday (October 31st), and there is no ordinance setting trick-or-treat hours for neighborhoods in Dakota Dunes, North Sioux City, Sergeant Bluff, Sioux City, or South Sioux City, but traditionally it is recommended kids go between 6 and 8pm.
Here are some other ways kids in costume can get candy in the Siouxland area this October (this list will be updated as I hear of new events, and I will try to make sure they are shared in the Facebook group as well, so check back throughout the month!):
- Fri 10/6-Mon 10/9: Harvest Festival at Ufford Hills Pumpkin Patch
- Sat 10/7 8am-4pm: Sergeant Bluff Pumpkin Days at the Pioneer Farmer's Market off highway 75
- Sat 10/7 10am-5pm: Pumpkin Fest at Early May on War Eagle Drive including pumpkin painting, a bounce house, games, face painting, hay rides, and a food and bake sale benefiting Calico Kids Preschool
- Sat 10/14: Sioux City Fall Festival and Friends Fall Festival at Hillview in Hinton (more details in the fall festival post)
- Sun 10/15 2-4pm: Military Family Trunk-or-Treat event for current or retired members of the Iowa air/army guard/reserve only. Military ID required and relatives without military ID must be accompanied. More info on Facebook.
- Sat 10/21 1-3pm: Trick-or-Treating and Halloween activities at Hy-Vee on Hamilton Blvd.
- Sat 10/21 2-4pm: Halloween Spooktacular at Long Lines Rec Center featuring bounce houses,face painting, rock wall climbing, and much more. Organized by the Sioux City Parks & Rec Department and Norm Waitt Sr. YMCA.
- Sat 10/21 2-5pm: Pumpkin Patch at New Life Community Church of the Nazarene with bouncy house, games, hot dogs and chips, and free pumpkins for the first 300 kids
- Sun 10/22 3:30-5pm: Haunted House and Trunk or Treat at Mater Dei Church back parking lot (1212 Morningside Ave)
- Tues 10/24 5:30pm: Trunk-or-Treat at Heartland Counseling, 917 W 21st, South Sioux City
- Tues 10/24 5:30-7pm: Halloween Party at Chick-fil-A (no purchase required)
- Tues 10/24 6pm: Halloween Party at the South Sioux City Public Library
- Weds 10/25 6-8pm: Big Orange Party at Morningside Assembly of God Church with free food and candy, plus carnival games, inflatables, and more
- Thurs 10/26 5:30-6:30pm: Trunk-or-Treat at Opportunities Unlimited
- Thurs 10/26 5:30-7:30pm: Keller Williams Trunk-or-Treat at The Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center
- Thurs 10/26 6:30pm: Pumpkin Carving at South Sioux City Library
- Sat 10/28 noon-4pm: Halloween Comic Fest at Acme Comics: kids are encouraged to come in costume to trick-or-treat for a free comic!
- Sat 10/28 10am-4pm & Sun 10/29 noon-4pm: Halloween at the Roundhouse at the Sioux City Railroad Museum (free will donation)
- Sat 10/28 3-4pm: Trick or Treat on the Bronson Park/Shelter Trail
- Sun 10/29 3-5pm: Trunk or Treat at Community United Methodist Church in Sgt. Bluff
- Sun 10/29 4-5pm: Trunk or Treat at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2915 Glenn Ave
- Sun 10/29 4-5pm: Trunk n Treat at Calvary Lutheran Church Sioux City
- Tues 10/31 4-6pm: Trick or Treat at Walmart on Floyd Blvd
- Tues 10/31, 6-8pm: Mall-o-Ween at Southern Hills Mall for kids 12 & under accompanied by a parent or guardian. No masks allowed.
- Tues 10/31 6pm: Trunk or Treat in Leeds by Dental Depot on Floyd Blvd.
- Tues 10/31 6-8pm: Trunk or Treat at ARK United Methodist Church in North Sioux City
There are also some events that aren't free, but might be worth paying for if you love Halloween fun:
- Sat 10/14 & Sat 10/21: Hallowfest at Ponca State Park (reserve your seat the Monday before you want to attend)
- Fri 10/20 and Sat 10/21 6:30-11pm: Haunted Cove at Crystal Cove park in South Sioux City including haunted hay ride, spooky version for adults, $10
- Sun 10/22 3-6pm: Haunted Cove at Crystal Cove park in South Sioux City, kid-friendly version including trick-or-treat stops, haunted hay ride, and costume contest, $5
- Weds 10/25 6pm, Fri 10/27 10pm, and Sat 10/28 4:30pm and 10pm: The Haunted Orpheum ($15/person or $10/person if you also have a ticket to the symphony concert on the 28th)
- Thurs 10/26 4-7pm: Monster Bash Halloween Party at Launchpad Children's Museum
- Sat 10/28 9-11am: Character Breakfast at North High School hosted by the North High Choir, featuring many costumed characters, crafts, storytime, princess tea party, sing-along, and silent auction. Costume wearing welcome! (tickets purchased ahead of time are $12 per adult/$10 for "students and seniors", $2 more per ticket at the door.)
If you have kids in school, be sure to check with the PTO about whether their are any events exclusively for families of kids at your school.
