Siouxland Summer Reading Programs 2019

Summer is a great time to read, and our local Siouxland libraries do a great job of supporting summer reading with fun programs for kids (and even one or two for adults!).   Most of the Siouxland libraries are doing the theme "A Universe of Reading" as their theme. Here are some of the great summer reading programs happening in and around Sioux City for summer 2019:

Sioux City Public Library

The Sioux City Public Library is celebrating reading this summer with fun events for all ages with the Universe of Reading theme, including STEM learning activities, an after-hours mystery for teens, and great prizes for participants in the summer reading program. South Sioux City Public Library

North Sioux City Public Library

Sergeant Bluff Public Library

The summer reading program at the Sergeant Bluff Public Library kicks off June 8th and runs through August 3rd. It will include educational programming for kids ages 1-8 on Tuesday from 9am to 1pm, for kids 7-12 on Thursdays from 9am to 1pm, and for middle school and high school students on Fridays from 9am to 1pm. There will also be book clubs on alternating weeks at 11am, and there will be prizes up for grabs! For more details, stop into the library, or check out their Facebook page.

Sloan Public Library

The Sloan Public Library is also going with a space theme for their summer reading program, and have announced a super cute "build a reading buddy" program aimed at preschool and early elementary readers featuring adorable plush aliens. The aliens and their reading program t-shirts will cost $15 each and there is a limit of 25, so interested families should sign up ASAP. LeMars Public Library

The LeMars Public Library will be celebrating summer with a variety of storytimes and programs for kids this June and July including groups for toddlers through 5th graders, family storytimes, and bilingual storytimes. Kids will also have the opportunity to earn points by reading books this summer which can then be used to get prizes from the library store. Orange City Public Library

The Orange City Public Library has an exciting summer of fun planned, with programs and prizes for babies through adults! Adults will be eligible to enter in a grand prize drawing, and kids from birth through 12th grade will be eligible for lots of prizes along the way. The Orange City Summer Reading Kickoff Event will be on June 3rd at City Hall with Lisa Laird and her Pockets Full of Fun puppets, ventriloquism, and dogs, with an ice cream social to follow! Readers can pick up their program packets any time the library is open between June 3rd and July 13th. Dakota City Public Library

The Dakota City, Nebraska Public Library is also going with the Universe of Stories theme, from June 1st to July 18th (except the week that includes 4th of July.) There will be programs every Thursday afternoon from 3:30 to 5pm, plus space themed movies will be played every Monday from 3-5pm. Barnes & Noble

Kids will be able to earn a free book from Barnes & Noble by completing a reading log and returning it to their local store. More details coming soon!
