Fourth of July falls on a Monday in 2022 and there is lots of patriotic fun happening. Here's where you can catch fireworks and celebrate the USA this year:

Fourth of July Celebrations in Sioux City

  • Sioux City Mardi Gras Parade
    • Parade starts at 6pm on Fri 7/1/22, leaving from the Tyson Events Center then heading to Pierce and then 3rd Street 
    • Full details available from the Tyson Events Center
    • FREE to attend
  • Saturday in the Park Music Festival
    • Will be held Sat 7/2/22, with fireworks after the concert, about 10pm (but can vary; it's usually close to 10pm but I have been at SITP years when the fireworks were much later, even close to midnight)

  • Sioux City Municipal Band Concert
    • The Sioux City Municipal Band will perform patriotic music at the Grandview Park Bandshell at 7:30pm on 7/3
    • FREE
  • Sioux City Explorers Baseball
    • Catch fireworks after the Sioux City Explorers games against the Winnipeg Goldeyes on 7/3/22 & 7/4/22 at Lewis & Clark Park

    • This musical family is known primarily for their gospel and contemporary Christian tunes, but every summer they turn their musical talents to patriotic tunes

  • Fireworks in Correctionville, IA 
    • Fireworks sponsored by the Correctionville Fire Department will be launched at dusk on 7/4/22 from Copeland Park
    • Tractor Pull and Pedal Pull that morning at 10am!
  • Bronson, IA Fourth of July celebration
    • Lots of fun planned on the weekend before fourth of July including bags tournament, mud volleyball, softball, water fights, a parade at 10am on the Fourth, and fireworks that evening at dusk!

  • Fourth of July in Onawa, IA
    • Fireworks at Lewis and Clark State Park at 10pm by the Onawa Fire Department
  • Mapleton, IA  Fourth of July celebration
    • 2022 events scheduled for Saturday 7/2/22 and Sunday 7/3/22
    • Includes a parade at 5pm on the 3rd, plus a car show, pedal pull, craft fair, train rides for kids, and much more, followed by fireworks from the HS athletic complex after dark

  • Fireworks at Plymouth County Fairgrounds in Le Mars, IA

  • Fireworks in Sioux Center, IA
    • The Sioux Center fireworks will be at Mouw Motor and Ver Hoef Automotive on Monday, 7/4/22 at 10pm
    • KSOU 93.9 will be broadcasting patriotic music during the show
  • Vermillion, SD fireworks 
    • Fireworks will be launched at the Bluffs Golf Course golf course off Main Street at dark on 7/4/22, about 10pm. Full details here.
  • 3rd on 3rd in Yankton, SD
    • Enjoy live music and lots of great food and fun in downtown Yankton's Meridian District with this block party, anchored at 3rd & Douglas Streets, from 4-11pm on Sunday 7/3/22.
  • Fireworks at the Meridian
    • 7/4/22 at 10pm, catch the city of Yankton's official fireworks show over the Missouri River
    • Recommended viewing locations are Riverside Park (East of the Meridian Bridge) or The Lawn (West of the Meridian Bridge between 2nd St & Riverside Dr.)
  • Battle Creek Fourth of July 
    • Festivities for the Fourth of July in Battle Creek from 7/2-7/4 have too much fun to list it all, but include a street dance, Miss & Mr. Firecracker pageant, a parade on 7/4/22 at 10am, inflatables, tons of delicious food, a library open house, foam party, and fireworks at dusk on the fourth!


Fourth of July Celebrations in Sioux Falls

  • Independence Day Celebrations at Falls Park
    • Celebrate Fourth of July at Falls Park on 7/4/22 with a huge variety of activities:
    • Fun run begins at 8am at Falls Park
    • Parade on Phillips begins at 10am
    • Community lunch at Falls Park at 11am, with hot dogs and chips for the first 3,000 attendees, and live music from the Sioux Falls Municipal Band

  • Fireworks at the W. H. Lyons Fairgrounds
    • The Sioux Falls Fireworks are presented by Fox 7, Sunny 99.3 (who will be broadcasting patriotic music!), and Grand Falls Casino.
    • Gates open at 7pm, and there will be food trucks, a kids zone, and more!
    • Musical performance from the Sioux Falls Municipal Band beginning at 8pm
    • POET ethanol-powered flyover will begin at 9pm
    • Fireworks start at 10pm

  • Sioux Falls Municipal Band Americana Concert
    • Hear a patriotic performance from the Sioux Falls Municipal Band live at Terrace Park at 8pm on 7/3/22
    • FREE to attend
  • Fourth of July Story & Crafts
    • Kids aged 2-5 are invited to hear a story and make Fourth of July themed crafts on Tuesday 6/28/22 at 10am at the Museum of Visual Materials

The Story of Loose Meat Sandwiches

There's nothing better in winter than some cozy comfort food. So, I'm excited to tell you all about Sioux City's signature dish, loose meat sandwiches, along with where to buy them and how to make your own! What is a loose meat sandwich? A loose meat sandwich is, at its core, a loose pile of flavorful ground beef, served on a hamburger bun. Many people refer to it as a tavern or tavern sandwich.  Exact seasoning blend varies by maker, but onion, horseradish, mustard powder, ketchup, pepper, and garlic are common, as is a pickle to top, and it should be loose, not in a patty, and fairly dry rather than saucy like a sloppy joe. History of the Loosemeat Sandwich The loose meat sandwich was created in Sioux City in about 1924, although there doesn't seem to be a clear historical record of who made it first. Miles Inn and Ye Olde Tavern were certainly selling it very early on accordingly to local legend, and it's likely the dish was invented at one or the other. Cho
