RAGBRAI 2023 starts here in Sioux City!!

RAGBRAI-- the Des Moines Register's Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa-- began in 1973, making this it's 50th anniversary, and to celebrate, the ride will be 500 miles long, from the Missouri River to the Mississippi River (it's traditional for riders to dip their tires in each!) The 2023 ride will take place from July 22nd through 29th, 2023, and the overnight stops were announced the last weekend of January:

The kickoff expo will take place here in Sioux City, and I'll share more details once they're available!
There are usually around 10,000+ riders each day of RAGBRAI, plus their support teams and friends and family, but this might be an extra big year due to the fun anniversary. So here in Siouxland we should plan on a huge influx of visitors that week and in the days right before RAGBRAI starts!

If you are someone interested in participating in RAGBRAI, their website, RAGBRAI.com, has all the details on how to sign up. You can ride the whole week, or just one leg of it, or just go to the expo for fun.

And if you are looking for details on fun attractions, food, and more in the cities along the route, I share tons of Siouxland fun here on SiouxlandFamilies.com, and you can contact me anytime if you want my advice on where you should go. I also highly recommend Erin Huiatt's Des Moines Parents site to see what is happening in the Des Moines area this summer.

Our local independently owned bike store is Albrecht Cycle, so that will be a great resource too for all the cyclists visiting Sioux City.

Also, Reedy Press has several great (ok, I'm admittedly biased as one of the authors!) guidebooks that will be useful to anyone travelling across Iowa this summer, and they're all available as eBooks if you don't want to lug print copies. There's my book (affiliate links ahead!), 100 Things to do in Sioux City and Siouxland Before You Die, 100 Things to Do in Iowa Before You Die by Sara Broers, and 100 Things to Do in Quad Cities Before You Die by Jonathan Turner.
