If you don't have a bike yet, you're going to want to get one--or rent one--to check out the amazing new bike features at Sioux City's Cone Park, opening in June of 2024. Here's what families can expect at this cool new Siouxland attraction:

First off, what is Cone Park?
Cone Park is a city park on the west side of the same hill/property as Sertoma Park,in Sioux City's southern hills area, near the Sioux City Explorers baseball stadium. You can check out my full guide to Sioux City's Sertoma Park for more info about what's on the east side of the park, including a playground and a disc golf course. But on the west side of this area, Cone Park provides tons of family fun including a tubing hill, which is obviously awesome in winter, and recently added a summer tubing option as well. There's also a splash pad at Cone Park, and it's somewhat minimalist, which actually enables it to double as a hockey rink, so it provides fun in both summer and winter!
So what's going on with the new bike course at Cone Park?

Basically, the city of Sioux City is turning some of the previously underused land at Cone Park into a mountain biking paradise. There will be courses for all ages and abilities, and bikes will be available to rent for those who do not have their own. Features will include 10-miles of natural surface trails but also the necessary equipment for jumps and tricks, like ramps and such. As a mom of four kids with a big age gap, I'm especially excited that they thought of adding areas with varying difficulties, because it will mean we could really go there as a family and let my teen go try an exciting area while my younger kids also have an option that is safe and age-appropriate for them.
When's the bike course at Cone Park going to be open?

The mountain bike course and features at Cone Park are going to officially open on Friday, June 14th with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1:30pm at the new Cone Park Mountain Bike Park, at 3800 Line Drive in Sioux City, IA, 51106 and Cone Park Trail Fest the next day.

To celebrate even more, on Saturday, June 15th from 10am to 5:30pm, Sioux City Parks & Rec is hosting their first Cone Park Trail Fest at the new Cone Park Mountain Bike Park! The FREE celebration will include demonstrations from professional mountain bike riders, food trucks, drinks, and live music. The vendor expo will be open from 10am to 5pm, and the demos are scheduled for 1-2:30pm. There will also be a kid's zone with special activities for young visitors to Trail Fest. And they're going to be doing some really fun giveaways. Plus, there will be tons of opportunities to actually go ride!
