Apple Orchards Near Sioux City and Siouxland

It's apple season! Whether you like them sweet or tart, baked into a pie or freshly sliced, apples are one of the quintessential fall flavors. And there's just something extra special about picking your own apples. Luckily, there are several lovely places near Sioux City and Siouxland where you can do just that. So, here's my guide to where to pick apples within 2 hours of Sioux City:

Apple Orchards in Sioux City

Autumn Grove Apple Orchard

1658 180th Street, Sioux City, IA

Currently Autumn Grove Apple Orchard is the only you-pick apple orchard I am aware of within Sioux City itself. There is no admission charge to Autumn Grove Apple Orchard, and the apples are sold by volume, so just buy your bag and pick what you want as long as it fits! Their opening day for 2025 is Sunday, September 7th from noon to 4pm but they stated they may not be open every Sunday (basically, it depends on the weather and which trees are ready which days,) so watch their Facebook page for updates! I've been several times in the past and we always have fun picking apples and found them delicious for both snacking and baking.

For fall 2025, apples at Autumn Grove Apple Orchard will be $40 for a 1/2 bushel, $25 for a peck, and $15 for a 1/2 peck.

For more information, follow Autumn Grove Apple Orchard on Facebook, and check out my full guide to Autumn Grove Apple Orchard.

Arbor Day Farm is built on a Nebraska homestead that was home to the first Arbor Day and continues to celebrate by planting new trees every year. You can pick your own apples in their orchard, but there's lots of other fun too. You could spend the night at the Lied Lodge or drive down for the day, play in the spectacular Tree Adventure, eat some BBQ (and an apple cider slushie!) at Porter's, and then pick some apples to bring home.  The pickable orchard at Arbor Day Farm includes Fuji, Jonathon, Liberty, Empire, Golden Delicious, and Honeycrisp apples. 2025 dates and prices will be announced soon.

The annual AppleJack Festival at the Arbor Day Farm, the last two weekends of September each year, is full of even more apple fun, so don't miss that if you're an apple orchard afficionado!

Vala's Pumpkin Patch

12102 South 180th Street, Gretna, NE

all smiles in the orchard at Vala's
While Vala's is known primarily as arguably the best pumpkin patch in the entire world, they also have the largest apple orchard in the state of Nebraska! The apple orchard is within Vala's and there's a cute tractor shuttle to take you out to the rows that are ready to be picked the day you're there.  At the Vala's Apple Orchard, visitors can pick their own apples from 9am to 6:30pm in a 40-acre orchard with 45 different varieties of apples. Honeycrisp weekend at Vala's is August 30th through September 1st, and during this time visitors can pick delicious Honeycrisp apples, while other delicious varieties of apples continue to be available throughout the month of September (weather dependent of course!)

And the apple fun doesn't stop at picking. There are apple cannons, and a new ride for 2025 called "Aunt Kelsey's Apple Tree Swing" which is a classic amusement park swing ride with an adorable apple tree theme!

Vala's also makes their own cider and hard cider with their apple in their 7,000ft cider mill, built in 2020. They source the apples for their cider from a special 7-acre section of the orchard that isn't publicly accessible containing heirloom bittersweet and bittersharp apples perfect for hard cider brewing. The resulting cider plus lots of other delicious apple-based foods and drinks, are sold at eateries around Vala's, and my personal favorite is their apple cider donuts. They're so good!
