I have a new policy on sharing AI-generated content that has been created by others! I will be implementing this policy across all my social media platforms and channels this April. I rarely share flyers on the blog anyway, so it won't affect much here, but I wanted to let you all know because I know many of you who read SiouxlandFamilies.com also follow me on one or more social media platforms as well (which I really appreciate!)
Basically, while I've already been firm in NOT using AI to generate any of my own content, I have been sharing AI-created imagery when that is what is provided by local organizations as the means of sharing about their events. But beginning April 2026, I will not be sharing any AI-generated images.
I will still share the events, but if the only images offered by the events hosts are AI-generated, I will share something else instead. I may try a variety of options including:
- create a text-only post
- create a new graphic using human-generated clip art on Canva
- create a post using a photo I have taken personally or taken by another human who gives me clear permission to do so
For example, Saturday in the Park recently shared some AI-generated flyers about the 2026 SITP festival. I am still super excited about SITP and will be sharing all about it as it gets closer, but I will probably use my own photo from a previous year at SITP, and I will definitely not be sharing their AI-generated flyer.
I will also not be sharing reviews of books that are AI-generated. As far as I know, I never have, but this is something I will be intentionally seeking information on, and I'll do my best to screen them out of my book lists if any pop up in the future.
I look forward to feedback on this--I know generative AI is new and we are all sort of figuring out where we stand on it. But for now, this policy feels right to me, and I put up a poll in the Siouxland Family Friendly Events Group on Facebook and more than 80% of group members who took the poll also came down on the side of banning all AI-generated images in the group. So, I feel like this is what the people want and I hope that this change makes the group better and more useful for everyone.
If you don't already follow me on social media, I'd love for you to join me on your favorite platforms. A few places you can find me include:
