National Ice Cream Day in Siouxland!

Today is National Ice Cream Day! Yum! National Ice Cream Day was established by President Ronald Reagan as the 3rd Sunday in July in 1984 with these words:
Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim July 1984 as National Ice Cream Month and July 15, 1984, as National Ice Cream Day, and I call upon the people of the United States to observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities.

I'm on board with that!
So without further ado, here are some of the best places in Siouxland to get ice cream:
  • A & W: Rootbeer floats are obviously a delicious way to celebrate National Ice Cream Day
  • Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor in LeMars Iowa: seems almost silly to live this close to the ice cream capitol on National Ice Cream Day and not visit it, doesn't is? The Blue Bunny ice cream parlor is open today from noon to 10pm
  • Billy Boy drive-thru in Riverside: If a milkshake is more your speed than a cone, I've heard the milkshakes from Billy Boy are pretty spectacular (sadly I can not confirm this as I have not yet tried them! Clearly I need to fix that sometime soon!)
  • Cherry Berry: this self serve frozen yogurt bar makes it easy to create your perfect treat
  • Culver's: besides their butterburgers, Culver's is known for their concretes, and with good reason! Definitely the most gourmet option you can get in Sioux City itself
  • Dairy Queen: there are locations across Siouxland, all selling many different types of deliciously soft serve ice cream
  • Inside Scoop in Holstein: this is another great little place I have heard is excellent but have not yet tried. Definitely on my ice cream bucket list!
  • McDonalds: Okay, it's not the highest quality ice cream in the world, but it's cold and sweet and today you can get one free if you use their app!
  • Monterrey Mexican restaurant: rumor has it you can buy fried ice cream at Monterrey--and that its very worth doing so!
  • Scoops: one of Siouxland's quirkiest food secrets, the delicious Scoops ice cream is actually hidden inside a laundromat! Don't let that scare you off-bring a load of laundry with you and get some work done while you cool off with a cone!
  • Udder Delights in Wayne: everyone agrees their ice cream is delicious, I can't find any recent information online about their hours, so I recommend calling to check that they're open before you head out!
