Heather Dawn Torres is an Omaha-based author and mom who grew up on a northwest Iowa farm and says she sometimes used books as a way to get out of chores!

The Tractor Squad is her first book, and a sequel, The Tractor Squad Saves the Day is scheduled for release in April 2025

You can learn more about Torres and her books on her author website.

About the Tractor Squad

The Tractor Squad is a brand-new picture book about a friendly group of tractors, released on September 3, 2024. It is written by Heather Dawn Torres, illustrated by San Francisco-based artist Gary Laib and published by Marble Press. The 40-page long book includes two stories inside, The Tractor Jig and Ten Busy Tractors.

I got to look at an e-version of the book for review purposes, and it's so cute! Both stories were well thought out and distinct. I think either could have easily held their own as a standalone book, but I love the value to readers of having both in the same book. I was very impressed with the great vocabulary and read-aloud rhythm that Torres was able to infuse consistently throughout the two stories. It was fun to read aloud and from my kids' reactions, seemed fun to listen to also. The Tractor Squad definitely kept my kids' attention well through both stories. By the end of Ten Busy Tractors, my son was happily reciting the end of the repeating line before I even said it, which is not something he usually does! And the illustrations were colorful, cheerful, and just the right amount silly.
