Tom's Elton Tribute live at the Sioux City Orpheum this August!

Performer extraordinaire Tom Cridland is bringing his Elton Tribute show to Sioux City on August 28th, and Elton fans are going to love it. The great music of Sir Elton John would be enough to ensure a good show on their own. But Cridland doesn't leave it at that--he also has an incredible backstory that makes this show even more unique and special.   Basically, during the lockdowns at the beginning of this decade, Brit Tom Crindland took up a new hobby, like so many of us: he decided to learn to play the piano. Beyond the fun of it, he also hoped it would help him stay sober after recently recovering from a struggle with alcoholism, and it did. Crindland poured his heart and soul into the music, focusing on getting himself healthy and staying busy. But his amazing talent shone through, and it turned into much more. When the world opened back up, Crindland took his act to the stage and it was electric. While he doesn't sound exactly like Elton (or claim to), he does have tons ...

Explore Sioux City's Grandview Park

Grandview Park sits amidst the central Sioux City hills, with a spectacular view of much of the city from the highest points in the park. As promised, there's a grand view! Grandview Park Basic Facts Grandview Park sits on 32 acres, roughly between McDonald to the west, Douglas Street to the east, 24th street to the south, and Stone Park Boulevard to the north, while Grandview Boulevard winds through the park. The park has been open to visitors since 1908 when it was opened as Grand View Park.  Grandview Park Bandshell The star of Grandview Park is its bandshell. The art deco masterpiece was built as part of the civilian works administration, and its beautiful appearance to this day is a testament to their hard work.  When no performance is happening, you can climb on stage yourself! CWA Project 217, aka the Grandview Park Bandshell, was designed by l...

Star Wars: A New Hope at the Sioux City Symphony

This weekend, epic adventure sweeps into Siouxland as the Sioux City Symphony presents Star Wars like you've never experienced it! The original Star Wars movie, now known as A New Hope (episode 4) will be shown on a huge screen at the Orpheum theater with the original voice and sound effects, however the symphonic music originally provided by the London Symphony Orchestra in the 1977 film will be replaced by live music from the Sioux City Symphony! A New Hope is rated PG, but there are few scary moments, and I would recommend this event for kids 8+ who can sit still and quiet for 2+ hours (the movie run time is 121 minutes, plus plan on a few minutes of introduction from the Sioux City Symphony and possibly an intermission) and who are okay with some sci-fi suspense and fighting. Star Wars: A New Hope at the Sioux City Symphony has two performance times: Saturday September 29th at 7:30pm Sunday September 30th at 3pm All seats are $49, and tickets are available onli...
