Siouxland Kids Events worth paying for in May 2015

Each month we will bring you info on events for kids in the Siouxland Area that have an admission or participation cost. If you know of one we have missed, please leave us a comment or send us an email. We will update our lists throughout the month as we hear of new events, so check back often for the latest scoop! 5/5-5/10: Abu-Bekr Shrine Circus at Tyson Events Center 
5/6: Student Night at the Climbing Wall at Long Lines Rec Center, 4-6pm or 6-8pm, $4 for students
5/9: Kids' Cooking Class at Hy-Vee on Gordon Drive, 2:30pm, ages 6-12, $5
5/10: Race for the Cure at the Sioux City Convention Center, kid's race at 8am, 5k at 9am, $15 for kid's race, $25-30 for 13&up race (free for spectators and reduced race registration price for breast cancer survivors )

5/13: Student Night at the Climbing Wall at Long Lines Rec Center, 4-6pm or 6-8pm, $4 for students
5/16: Kids's Club event: Friendship Bracelet Making at Michael's craft store, 10am to noon, $2, ages 3 & up
5/16: Sioux City Bandits vs Omaha Beef at Tyson Events Center, 7:05pm

5/19: Toddler Time Cooking Class at Hy-Vee on Gordon Drive, 3:15, ages 3-5, $5
5/20: Student Night at the Climbing Wall at Long Lines Rec Center, 4-6pm or 6-8pm, $4 for students
5/21: Sioux City Explorers Opening Day vs Sioux Falls Canaries at Lewis & Clark Park, 7:05pm
5/22: Sioux City Explorers vs Sioux Falls Canaries at Lewis & Clark Park, 7:05pm
5/23: Riverside Pool Opens for the summer!
5/23: Kids's Club event: Red, White, & Blue Craft Stick Flags at Michael's craft store, 10am to noon, $2, ages 3 & up
5/23: Spring themed kids' cooking class at Hy-Vee in South Sioux City, 1pm, ages 5-10, $5, pre-registration required
5/23: Sioux City Explorers vs Sioux Falls Canaries at Lewis & Clark Park, 7:05pm

5/27: Student Night at the Climbing Wall at Long Lines Rec Center, 4-6pm or 6-8pm, $4 for students
5/29: Sioux City Explorers vs Quebec Les Capitales at Lewis & Clark Park, 7:05pm
5/30: Big Blue Fun Run at Lewis & Clark state park in Onawa, 5k/10k for 12&up, 1.5 mile run for under 12, registration costs vary. Online registration required. 
5/30: Kids's Club event: DIY Paper flags at Michael's craft store, 10am to noon, $2, ages 3 & up
5/30: Sioux City Explorers vs Quebec Les Capitales at Lewis & Clark Park, 7:05pm
5/30: Sioux City Bandits vs Amarillo Venom at Tyson Events Center, 7:05pm
5/31: Sioux City Explorers vs Quebec Les Capitales at Lewis & Clark Park, 6:05pm

We do not run any of these events and encourage you to call or visit the websites of the hosting locations, organizations, or stores with any questions and confirm details. Most paid events require tickets in advance and some may sell out quickly or very far in advance.

Siouxland Pumpkin Patches

One of the best parts of living right in the middle of some of the world's best farmland is access to amazing pumpkin patches! Whether you're looking for simply pumpkins in a farm field; an all-day adventure with corn mazes, hayrides, apple cider donuts, and cute photo opps; or something in between, Siouxland probably has your type of pumpkin patch! Here are the best pumpkin patches in Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota within a 2-hour drive from downtown Sioux City, listed by distance from downtown Sioux City: 2025 update currently in progress. The Ranch KC offers family-friendly KC BBQ in Belton, MO

UPDATE: The Ranch KC closed in spring 2026. I am leaving my review up for now in case people are still curious about what it was like. You can check out more of my KC faves here. On a recent trip to Kansas City, I had the opportunity to visit a new restaurant, The Ranch KC, and I was so impressed I wanted to share about it with all of you! My former hometown of Kansas City is one of my favorite travel destinations, not just because I love seeing my family and friends there, but also because there are great places to play, shop, eat, and explore. And The Ranch KC is definitely going on my list of great little places to eat in the KC area for future trips too! The Ranch KC is at its heart a barbeque restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and lots of kid-friendly options, so I definitely recommend it as a great way to get some KC BBQ, especially if you're visiting the area with kids.  Where is The Ranch KC?
