Siouxland Pumpkin Patches

One of the best parts of living right in the middle of some of the world's best farmland is access to amazing pumpkin patches! Here are some of the great pumpkin patches within a 2 hour drive from downtown Sioux City, listed by distance from downtown Sioux City. This roundup will be updated as more information about 2019 pumpkin patch hours, rates, and events are available. Scarecrow Farms

Location: 1592 Charles Avenue, Lawton, Iowa
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 8.7 miles/ 15 minutes (4 miles East of Menards)
2019 Dates open: Weekends in September and everyday in October; 10am-7pm on weekends and noon-7pm on weekdays. September 14th & 15th is Sunflower Festival.
Costs: Weekday admission to Scarecrow Farm is $7.95 for ages 3 & up and free for ages 2 & under. Weekend admission to Scarecrow Farm is $9.95 for ages 3 & up and free for ages 2 & under. Haunted Forest admission is $12.95 per person. Sunflower Festival $11.95 per person.
Firepit rental is $39.95 for 4 hours. Shelter rental is $79.95 (small shelter) or $149.95 (large shelter) for 4 hours, and zipline $14.95 per ride or $34.95 for 3 rides by the same rider. Everything but the firepits, ziplines, shelters, and food/gift purchases (including pumpkins and apples and anything from the Treat Shack) is included with the admission price. Pumpkins start at 39c/lb with a $2 minimum.  Discounted admission available for groups over 20, just call to discuss options!
Fun Features: At Scarecrow Farms you'll have fun with the pumpkin patch, hay maze, hayrack rides, mini train, ghost story barn, tire swing, corn box, trike track, jumping pillow, petting zoo, pick your own apples from their apple orchard, plus there are hot drinks like apple cider and more treats for sale in the Hay Stack Treat Shack including pie and carving pumpkins, pumpkin carving tools, gourds, squash, apples, local honey, hay bales, jams, jellies, salsa, cold bottled sodas and root beer, and much more! New in 2018 are a new pedal cart track, and the corn maze will be cut into two routes, one smaller and easier to find your way out of, and one larger and more complicated!

Diane's Pumpkin Patch

Ufford Hills

The Ufford Hills website and Facebook page are down, which I assume means they have closed. If I heard otherwise, I will update this as soon as I have new info!

Hoefling's Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze

Location: 5303 D Ave, Marcus, IA
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 41.7 miles/50 minutes
2019 Dates open: will be updated when available!
Costs: No gate fee. Daytime corn maze $4, lighted corn maze $5, Haunted Corn Maze $6, free corn maze admission for veterans on 10/13
Fun Features: Visitors should expect dozens of varieties of pumpkin, squash, and decorative corns, hay rides, a corn maze, pumpkin bowling, bean bag toss, and lots of cute selfie opportunities! In the past a special haunted corn maze has been a big hit on the weekend before Halloween, and Family Fun Nights featuring smores and hot dogs around a bonfire! There is also a gift shop featuring handmade pumpkin bread, cookies and popcorn balls, plus caramel apples, bottles of pop and more.

Harvest Moon Oakland

Location: 1410 Highway 77, Oakland, NE
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 45.5 miles/53 minutes
2019 Dates open: Sept 16th-Oct 28th, 10am-3pm on Tuesday through Thursday, noon-6pm on Fridays, and from noon-8pm on Saturdays and Sundays
Costs: $8.50 per person ages 3+, $5 for military, kids 2 & under are free and so are teachers when they bring their class. Groups of 10+ are $7.50 per person. Fire pits or barn party $25
Fun Features: At the picturesque Harvest Moon, you'll find not only pumpkins but also a 3 acre corn maze, giant jumping pillows, puppet barn, go-karts, basketball shoot-outs, giant slides, ziplines and much more!

Fields of Fun

Location: 3273 400th Street, Sioux Center, IA
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 46 miles/54 minutes
2019 Dates Open: Tuesdays through Saturdays in September & October, beginning Tues 9/3, open from 10am-10pm on Tues-Thurs and from 10am-11pm on Fridays & Saturdays. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
Costs: will be updated when available!
Fun Features: Corn Maze, Petting Zoo, Hayrides, and of course, lots of pumpkins! There will also be all sorts of goodies for sale, from classic baked goods to trendier fare like iced coffee!

Country Apple Orchard

Location: 27249 SD Highway 115, Harrisburg, SD
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 79.3 miles/ 1 hour 10 minutes
2019 Dates Open: Opening August 31st, open noon-6pm on 8/31-9/2, then open 10am-7pm on weekdays, 10am-6pm on Saturday, and 11am-5pm on Sundays. Family Fun Festival is 9/14-9/15, Apple Festival is 9/21-9/22, Harvest Festival is 10/5-10/6, and Pumpkin Festival is 10/12-10/13
Costs: Free admission. Train rides are $2, pony rides are $3, and wristbands for inflatables are $7.

Solsma Punkin Patch

Location: 6190 320th Street, Sanborn, IA
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 73.1 miles/ 1 hour 18 minutes
2019 Dates open: Everyday from Halloween to Labor Day. Mon-Fri 11am-6pm, Sat 9am-6pm, Sun 1pm-6pm. Evenings by appointment!
Costs: Free admission to pumpkin patch, $5 per person for corn maze, prices vary by item for country store
Fun Features: Solsma's pumpkin patch features 65 varieties of pumpkins, plus a corn maze and a country store with a variety of seasonal and home decor. The real show stealer though is their delicious locally made foods and home decor items available for purchase, including honey, frosted cupcakes, fresh picked apples, hormone free beef, the Solsma's famous ruby red popcorn, and wines from Summerset Winery and Country Barn Winery (specific offerings vary by week-feel free to call them if you'd like to know what's available a certain week!)

Pioneer Trail

Location: 21534 Chestnut, Council Bluffs, IA
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 105 miles/1 hour 37 minutes

Fun Features: Haunted house and maze, corn maze, dino dig, 6-hole disc golf course, haunted mine, gold mining, classic horror and Halloween movies projected on the side of the barn on Fridays and Saturdays at dusk, and lots of pumpkins!

Poppy's Pumpkin Patch

Location: 55275 837th Road, Norfolk, NE
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 84.4 miles/ 1 hr 38 minutes
Dates open: September 17th to October 30th, Tuesdays & Wednesdays 10am-3pm, Thursdays-Sundays 10am-6pm, closed on Mondays
Costs: Free for babies & toddlers under 2, $7.50 for ages 3+, $6.60 for ages 65+ and for military with ID, firepits $25 for 2 hours, party room $35, group rates may be available
Fun Features: Tons of pumpkins, a raft ride, cool slides and climbing structures, crafts, free face painting every weekend from 11am-5pm, and much more, plus a café on Saturdays and Sunday where you can get meals for under $5 or seasonal snacks like pumpkin bars and gourmet caramel apples!

Distance from downtown Sioux City: 113 miles/1 hour 44 minutes
2019 Dates Open: Friday, September 14th through Thursday, October 31st. Open from 9am to 9pm on Sunday through Thursday and from 9am to 10pm on Friday & Saturday.
Costs: Admission is $12.95 per person on Monday through Thursday, $16.95 per person on Friday-Sunday in September, and $23.95 per person on Friday-Sunday in October. Season passes are $55.95 per person. Pumpkins are 49c/lb. Train rides $3.50, pony rides $7, apple blaster starts at $4, zombie paintball starts at $2.50, prices vary for gemstone mining, budgie barn, and face painting.

Hawk Valley Gardens

Location: 2670 US-18, Spencer, Iowa
Distance from downtown Sioux City: 98.5 miles/ 1 hour 50 minutes
Directions from downtown Sioux City: Take US-75 North to IA-60 North, then turn right on 400th street (at Hospers). Turn left on 190th Ave/M38, then right onto 365th street, which will turn into 360th street and then US-18
2019 Dates open: Sept 7th through the end of October, from noon-6pm on Friday and from 9am-6pm on weekends (please note the reduced hours this year--according to their FB page it's because of a new baby in the family, which is so exciting!!)
Costs: Pumpkins available from 50c to $50 depending on size and variety
Fun Features: Working farm with 150+ varieties of vegetables, mostly pumpkins and other squash, plus antique tractors, live chickens, and more

Siouxland Family Scavenger Hunt

What is the Siouxland Family Scavenger Hunt?
The Siouxland Family Scavenger Hunt is a photo scavenger hunt that will take you all over Sioux City! This Sunday, May 24th, is National Scavenger Hunt Day, so get out and get hunting!

The 2020 Siouxland Family Scavenger Hunt is also a great way to get out of the house in a social-distancing-friendly way, and to enjoy some fresh air and the sights of Sioux City with your family while you're at it!  And there are fun prizes!
