Summer 2020 at LaunchPad Children's Museum

I reached out to LaunchPad Children's Museum to find out more about their plans for summer 2020, and found out they have lots of exciting fun in the works for Siouxland kids, including a brand new subscription box program and tentative in-person events later this summer if circumstances allow! Here's what Siouxland parents should know about summer 2020 at LaunchPad Children's Musuem:

LaunchPad Learners Craft Boxes

I received a free LaunchPad Learners box for review purposes.

LaunchPad's new subscription box program is called LaunchPad Learners and is sure to be a hit! Each box will contain all the supplies needed for 10 educational craft activities, with the exception of a few common household items like water. The boxes will also have QR codes that link to exclusive video tutorials, and the projects are designed so that older elementary age kids should be able to do most of them with minimal adult support (perfect for when the grown-ups are doing their work!)

There will be two boxes released in June 2020, with a total cost of $70 for the entire month of 20 projects. That works out to about $3.50 per activity, which is the same or less than you'd pay for similar activities purchased individually at the craft store, but all in one convenient box and with the video links and other support from LaunchPad staff!

I got to check out one of the boxes for free and here's what was inside:

My 10 year-old and I did some of the crafts, and my 7-year old and I did some, and we will update this post soon with some pics and videos of our creations! We loved the video tutorials--just be sure you have a QR reader app on your phone. If you haven't used QR codes before, it can seem intimidating, but they're actually really easy to use, so give it a try, and don't hesitate to reach out to the LaunchPad staff or to me if you want more help with that step!

The LaunchPad Learner boxes launched June 1st right here

Visiting LaunchPad in Summer 2020

LaunchPad Children's Museum will be open again beginning July 1st, 2020! Admission will be available by reservation only. I will be sure to link to the reservation page as soon as that is available! Other precautions the LaunchPad team is taking to ensure guests stay healthy include:

  • Limited number of guests at a time (50 maximum per session)
  • Contactless temperature checks
  • Mask-wearing requested, but not required, of all adults and children over 3
  • Extra cleaning, both with wipes while guests are present, and with a special disinfecting fog machine between sessions!

LaunchPad Summer Day Camps

LaunchPad's education team will begin holding in-person day camps in July of 2020! LaunchPad summer day camps in past years have including a variety of STEM related topics and tons of creative, educational fun for kids. Siouxland families should expect the same this summer! For all camps this summer, morning sessions will be held for kids 4-6 years old and afternoon sessions for kids 7-10, and each camp session for 2020 costs $70, which includes the camp and a T-shirt. The Ranch KC offers family-friendly KC BBQ in Belton, MO

UPDATE: The Ranch KC closed in spring 2026. I am leaving my review up for now in case people are still curious about what it was like. You can check out more of my KC faves here. On a recent trip to Kansas City, I had the opportunity to visit a new restaurant, The Ranch KC, and I was so impressed I wanted to share about it with all of you! My former hometown of Kansas City is one of my favorite travel destinations, not just because I love seeing my family and friends there, but also because there are great places to play, shop, eat, and explore. And The Ranch KC is definitely going on my list of great little places to eat in the KC area for future trips too! The Ranch KC is at its heart a barbeque restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and lots of kid-friendly options, so I definitely recommend it as a great way to get some KC BBQ, especially if you're visiting the area with kids.  Where is The Ranch KC? The Ranch KC is located at 17207 S US Hwy 71 in Belton, ...
