Guide to Sunkist Bakery

Sunkist Bakery is home to Siouxland's best yeasted donuts, and it's also Sioux City's oldest bakery still in operation. It's also one of my personal faves! Here's what you should know about Sunkist Bakery:

Sunkist Bakery is located at 4607 Morningside Avenue in Sioux City, IA, just a few blocks from Morningside University and the Morningside branch library. There is ample free parking in Sunkist's lot, and there is additional free parking on the streets surrounding the bakery.

History of Sunkist Bakery

Sunkist Bakery has been making delicious food since 1932, making it the oldest bakery in Sioux City that's still in operation. They've supplied many local restaurants with rolls, pizza dough, and other dough and bread varieties throughout their decades of operation and continue to do so in the 2020s. According to the owners, Sunkist uses around 6,000 pounds of flour every week!

In 2019, Sunkist expanded to a second location on Hamilton Boulevard, which had a drive through window, which I was a huge fan of. It unfortunately closed as the world changed so much in the 2020s.  I'd love to see them expand again someday.

Sunkist Bakery has cases of donuts and other baked goods, including cookies, cakes, and bars. Their donuts are primarily yeasted (I'd argue the BEST yeasted donuts in Siouxland) and include long johns, sprinkled covered donuts, classic glazed donuts, cinnamon rolls, jelly or custard filled donuts, apple fritters, and more. It's always so fun to see what they are offering on a given day. And if you're early enough, be sure to grab the brown paper bags of donut holes. They're so light and fluffy and they're also very inexpensive. I never leave Sunkist without at least one bag of them if I manage to get there before the donut holes sell out.

The Ranch KC offers family-friendly KC BBQ in Belton, MO

UPDATE: The Ranch KC closed in spring 2026. I am leaving my review up for now in case people are still curious about what it was like. You can check out more of my KC faves here. On a recent trip to Kansas City, I had the opportunity to visit a new restaurant, The Ranch KC, and I was so impressed I wanted to share about it with all of you! My former hometown of Kansas City is one of my favorite travel destinations, not just because I love seeing my family and friends there, but also because there are great places to play, shop, eat, and explore. And The Ranch KC is definitely going on my list of great little places to eat in the KC area for future trips too! The Ranch KC is at its heart a barbeque restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and lots of kid-friendly options, so I definitely recommend it as a great way to get some KC BBQ, especially if you're visiting the area with kids.  Where is The Ranch KC?
