Iowa is hosting America's Harvest Festival!

An exciting new event is being held in Iowa this fall in honor of our nation's 250th birthday! On October 24th, 2026, head to the Iowa State Capitol for America's Harvest Festival and celebrate autumn in the US like never before. Here's what we know about this cool event so far (and I'll be sure to update throughout the summer and fall as new details are shared!)

Where is America's Harvest Festival happening?

America's Harvest Festival is happening at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, Iowa. There's ample free parking on the capitol grounds, but I'd anticipate that at least some of it may be used as event space for this festival. If they share alternative parking and/or shuttle options, I'll share that once I hear about it!

When is America's Harvest Festival happening?

America's Harvest Festival is happening on Saturday, October 24th, 2026 from 1pm to sunset, around 7pm.

What is America's Harvest Festival?

America's Harvest Festival is a one-day event celebrating America's agricultural heritage, as part of the broader celebrations in 2026 of America's 250th Birthday. There will supposedly be representatives from all 99 counties present, and there will be a variety of entertainment, agricultural demonstrations, and hands-on activities. A teaser video on the event website specifically mentions live entertainment and local food, which sounds fun and delicious to me!

Some activities and entertainment specifically listed on the event website so far include rock painting, historical reenactments, a scavenger hunt for kids, and live painting by Bubba Sorenson of Freedom Rock fame.

And the site's food section mentions ice cream, popcorn, meat from both Hy-Vee and Fareway, Iowa-sourced favorites, and classic fall comfort foods. It's making me hungry just to read about it!

Learn more about America's Harvest Festival

I'm excited to hear more details about this Iowa event, and I'll update again as I hear more about the fun planned for America's Harvest Festival more broadly or about what Woodbury County and other nearby Siouxland counties might be doing specifically! You can also find out more at the America's Harvest Festival website.

The Ranch KC offers family-friendly KC BBQ in Belton, MO

UPDATE: The Ranch KC closed in spring 2026. I am leaving my review up for now in case people are still curious about what it was like. You can check out more of my KC faves here. On a recent trip to Kansas City, I had the opportunity to visit a new restaurant, The Ranch KC, and I was so impressed I wanted to share about it with all of you! My former hometown of Kansas City is one of my favorite travel destinations, not just because I love seeing my family and friends there, but also because there are great places to play, shop, eat, and explore. And The Ranch KC is definitely going on my list of great little places to eat in the KC area for future trips too! The Ranch KC is at its heart a barbeque restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and lots of kid-friendly options, so I definitely recommend it as a great way to get some KC BBQ, especially if you're visiting the area with kids.  Where is The Ranch KC? The Ranch KC is located at 17207 S US Hwy 71 in Belton, ...
