This Friday is National Donut Day, which is one of my very favorite made up holidays, and I'm excited to share with you (in alphabetical order because they are all too yummy to rank) my top picks of where to celebrate with the best donuts in the Sioux City area!

Cafe Brule

Where: 24 West Main Street in Vermillion, SD
Why: Fluffy soft beignets with raspberry or honey dipping sauce, along with lots of other tasty options

Where: Over a dozen locations all over Siouxland including 3 in Sioux City
Why: best gas station donuts in Siouxland, including the best blueberry donuts in Sioux City

Evelyn's

Why: authentic Mexican pastries including conchas and much more. I especially love all the fun flavors they have like lots of pineapple options!

Why: the best grocery store donuts in Siouxland, with classic flavors in yeasted and cake donut styles and an expanded selection of gourmet donuts at locations with a full bakery

Why: the best cake donuts in Sioux City, with the vintage Sunshine Donuts machine many in Siouxland believe is the secret to perfect cake donuts. My favorites are the maple frosting with peanuts!

The Ranch KC offers family-friendly KC BBQ in Belton, MO

UPDATE: The Ranch KC closed in spring 2026. I am leaving my review up for now in case people are still curious about what it was like. You can check out more of my KC faves here. On a recent trip to Kansas City, I had the opportunity to visit a new restaurant, The Ranch KC, and I was so impressed I wanted to share about it with all of you! My former hometown of Kansas City is one of my favorite travel destinations, not just because I love seeing my family and friends there, but also because there are great places to play, shop, eat, and explore. And The Ranch KC is definitely going on my list of great little places to eat in the KC area for future trips too!
